Charles Russell Speechlys advises Avicenna Group on duo of pharmacy group acquisitions

The Pharmacy team at Charles Russell Speechlys has advised long-standing client Avicenna Group on the acquisition of the Dudley Taylor Pharmacy Group and Sheppards Pharmacy Group, taking Avicenna to a total of 135 branches.

The Dudley Taylor Pharmacy Group (purchased by Avicenna in March 2021), a family owned company dating back to 1948, has 57 branches located across Yorkshire, the Midlands, the south of England and Wales. Its pharmacies are predominantly situated in local communities, with teams that are passionate about providing excellent and efficient services in their communities.

Sheppards Pharmacy Group (which Avicenna purchased in April 2021), has 34 branches mainly located in South Wales. It is also a family-owned business started in Aberdare by Alan and Jean Sheppard in 1972. Its aim is to achieve the highest level of primary healthcare provision to the local community, providing a full range of quality goods and services that are value for money and readily accessible to all in need of them.

Jonathan Power (Group CEO at Avicenna) commented: “We enjoy working with Tim Jenkins and the broader team at Charles Russell Speechlys and we value the support that they have given, working alongside our leadership team to help deliver both of these acquisitions in tandem over a busy period for the Group. We value their legal expertise, sector knowledge and proactive commercial approach all of which have helped contribute to the growth of our business over the last 4 years.”

Tim Jenkins, Corporate Partner commented: “We are delighted to have been able to support the Group on its acquisition programme and look forward to continuing to work closely with them moving forwards.”

The Charles Russell Speechlys team, led by Tim Jenkins, included Charlie Ring and Sam Milne (Corporate), Graham Crocker (Tax), Ingrid Saffin (leading most of the Guildford and Cheltenham property teams) and Phil Webb; Noel Wardle and Sam Jenkins (Regulatory), and Esther White and Josie Macleod (Employment and Pensions).
