Charles Russell Speechlys today publishes the first episode in its second series of the ‘Client Conversations’ podcast, hosted by Managing Partner, Simon Ridpath, and other lawyers from around the Firm. This episode, Simon is joined by Graeme Kleiner, who heads the Firm's Private Wealth Disputes team and the legendary sportsman, media pundit, and philanthropist, Alan Shearer CBE.

A very special guest and valued client of Charles Russell Speechlys, Alan touches on his professional challenges, what inspired him to persevere through challenging times, the Alan Shearer foundation, and future trends in the world of football.

Since retiring as a player, Alan moved into the media world as a football pundit for the BBC and TNT Sports and created the ‘Alan Shearer Foundation’, which was set up to directly support the Alan Shearer Centre in Newcastle: a highly specialist, disability, respite, residential and social provision for people with complex disabilities and acute sensory impairments.

Previous episodes have featured the world’s most prolific producer of musicals in theatre history, Sir Cameron Mackintosh, philanthropist Dame Steve Shirley, who pioneered a career in the information technology sector, and Sir Martin Smith, who was a founder and senior partner of Phoenix Securities.

Alan Shearer comments:

“It was a delight to take a trip down memory lane and reflect on my football career… the highs, the lows and the bits in between. I always jump at the opportunity to discuss the Alan Shearer Foundation and the great work we do as it really does make a difference.

“The feeling of giving back gives me greater pleasure than any goal that I ever scored. Thanks to Simon and Graeme for an enjoyable discussion.”

Simon Ridpath, Managing Partner, adds:

“As an avid football fan, it was a pleasure to sit down in conversation with Alan Shearer, one of the most prolific goal scorers in world football of his generation. It was fascinating to hear his reflections on the qualities and character behind the athlete and what drove his success. Over and above his remarkable achievements in the world of football and subsequent media career, it was a delight to learn about the motivation and huge successes of his charitable work and the Alan Shearer Centre.”
