Richard Flenley, Partner, writes a comment piece for Building Magazine on compulsory purchase compensation in light of a recent HS2 Supreme Court ruling.

Since it was first proposed, HS2 has faced severe delays and soaring costs, as well as vocal criticism from a wide range of stakeholders, including campaigners and politicians, concerned about its financial and environmental impact.

The government recent decision to cancel the Manchester leg of the high-speed line (the Leeds leg already having effectively been cancelled) has caused a public outcry, met with strong criticism from business and local leaders across the North-west and West Midlands.

But amid all this noise, two groups of people being hugely affected by HS2 plans are farmers and landowners...
