The Times quotes Tim Maxwell on replica copies and copyright considerations
Replica copies of the Elgin Marbles are to go on show in London. However, the British Museum has said that the Institute for Digital Archaeology (IDA) was not authorised to scan the statues.
Tim Maxwell, Partner, comments for the Times that "it was not clear whether a new copyright was created through a scan."
He added that the museum’s visitor regulations made clear that photographs and data taken from visits could only be used for “private, non-commercial purposes”.
“If the museum was to do something it could be to enforce the contractual obligations you will have signed up to by entering the museum. It would be a breach of contract and they may be able to do something to prevent the exhibition going ahead.”
