The Financial Times quotes Emma Humphreys on UK rental costs
min readRecent data released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed that residential rental costs have increased at the fastest annual rate since records began seven years ago.
Private rents rose 5.5 per cent year on year in August, up slightly from 5.3 per cent in July.

With rents soaring, the state of the rental market is deeply concerning for many. There are tenants struggling to pay their rent, and many landlords are being squeezed just as tightly, with rising mortgage payments and changes to tax reliefs forcing many to let go of their properties.
