European Commission opens in-depth investigation into the proposed acquisition of Fitbit by Google

The European Commission has opened an in-depth phase 2 investigation to assess the proposed acquisition of Fitbit by Google. The Commission is concerned that the proposed transaction would strengthen Google's market position in online advertising by increasing the amount of data that Google could use for personalisation of the ads it serves and displays.   • The European Commission has cleared Alstom's acquisition of Bombardier, subject to conditions to remedy concerns in relation to the supply of rail rolling stock and signalling solutions. Click here.

  • The CMA imposed a penalty of £300,000 on Pentland Group and JD Sports for failure to comply with the requirements of the initial enforcement order issued by the CMA in relation to the merger with Footasylum. Click here.
  • The CMA has provisionally found that the merger of FNZ and GBST should be blocked, as it raises competition concerns in the supply of retail investment platform solutions in the UK. Click here.
