About

Syma advises on all matters arising from the start to the end of the employment relationship. She can assist with drafting and enforcing terms of employment contracts (particularly relating to restrictive covenants and confidential information), dealing with disciplinary and grievance procedures, managing sickness absence and conducting redundancy processes. She is experienced in negotiating and settling complex employment disputes, including managing the exit of senior employees. Syma handles employment tribunal claims relating to a wide range of issues, including unfair dismissal, discrimination and whistleblowing. She has represented clients through to hearings at employment tribunals and the Employment Appeal Tribunal.

In addition to her advisory role, Syma writes articles for online and national publications on topical employment law issues. She regularly speaks at external seminars, including the firm’s Managing People series, which gives practical employment law advice to employers and HR professionals.

Syma is admitted to practise in England and Wales.

Syma is recognised as a ‘Rising Star’ in The Legal 500.

Experience

  • Won an appeal in the Employment Appeal Tribunal relating to the enforceability of a repayment of training costs clause in an employment contract
  • Successfully defended a multi-Claimant race discrimination claim against an airline following an outsourcing under TUPE
