Ray Ng, International Partner (England & Wales and British Virgin Islands)

Ray specialises in the company, commercial, trust, probate and insolvency law of England & Wales and the British Virgin Islands. He also practises Hong Kong law and the laws of other common law jurisdictions when acting in international arbitrations. In addition to engagements for legal representation, he undertakes expert witness engagements and has acted and/or appeared as an expert witness on company law in various jurisdictions including Geneva, Zurich, PRC, Hong Kong SAR and Singapore.

Typically, Ray acts for clients with interests in and across the PRC, Hong Kong SAR, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and/or Indonesia, as well as Europe and the Middle East. His clients comprise corporations, financial institutions, office-holders, fiduciaries and UHNW individuals engaged in complex high-value multi-jurisdictional commercial disputes relating to shareholder rights, directors’ duties, corporate governance, lending and security, cross-border restructuring and insolvency, asset-tracing and commercial fraud, trusts, probate, and matrimonial wealth.

Originally from Malaysia, Ray was educated at Caterham School, Durham University and the Inns of Court School of Law in the United Kingdom. He practised at the London Bar for 20 years and in the British Virgin Islands for 5 years before relocating to Hong Kong in 2014. “Lauded by peers and clients for his effectiveness in court”, he is a native English speaker who also speaks Mandarin, Cantonese and Bahasa; uniquely, he is the only offshore-admitted courtroom lawyer with resident BVI experience and Asian language capability.

Since 2011, Ray has been consistently recognised and ranked in the key legal directories. He is currently ranked by Chambers Asia Pacific 2021 as a leading lawyer in the Asia-Pacific Region.
