Jonathan is a commercial litigator, with a particular specialism in sports law.


Jonathan is a commercial litigator, with a particular specialism in sports law. He acts for sports governing bodies, teams, broadcasters and individuals in High Court litigation, arbitration proceedings (including before the Court of Arbitration for Sport), regulatory matters and disciplinary cases. Jonathan has acted for The Football Association for many years. His experience includes advising on a wide range of the Rules and Regulations that apply to the English game, as well as representing The FA in arbitration, disciplinary and court proceedings (including the current Hillsborough Inquests). He also has considerable experience in representing European football clubs in proceedings before UEFA’s disciplinary bodies.

Away from football, Jonathan's recent experience includes acting for the Welsh Rugby Union in High Court proceedings and in relation to regulatory matters, the Indian cricket team in disciplinary proceedings, Nike on a range of contentious matters and Premiership Rugby in relation to the operation of its salary cap. Jonathan has twice been listed by Sports Business as being one of the top 20 influential lawyers working within the sport sector, has been featured as the Lawyer of the Week in the Times.

Jonathan is admitted to practise in England and Wales.
