Jessica’s practice is focused on private client matters. She advises high-net-worth individuals, trustees, and beneficiaries on trusts, wills, estate and succession planning and philanthropic activities. She also has experience in probate, mental capacity matters, and nuptial agreements.

Jessica has been recommended for private client related matters by the Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2023.

Experience

  • Advised a Hong Kong tycoon in establishing multiple trusts to hold substantial shares in a listed company and a number of high-end residential properties and commercial buildings, and drafted the family constitution with bespoke criteria and procedures for the distributions from the trusts, management and investment of the trust fund, and participation in the family businesses by family members.

  • Assisted an elderly founder of a major hotel chain to set up a trust with a private trust company and drafted his Will, and arranged for a medical examination for him to ensure that he had the requisite testamentary capacity with a view to minimizing the risk of challenges of his Will and the trust after his death.

  • Advised an entrepreneur on his roles, powers, rights and duties in a number of trusts of a dynastic structure in view of his ongoing divorce proceedings.

  • Advised the descendant of a well-known Chinese artist on the intellectual property rights of the artworks, including new copyrights creation, trademark registration and merchandising opportunities, as well as the set up of a trust structure to hold the artworks and the businesses generated from the related intellectual property rights for the benefit of the family.

  • Acted for a descendant of a large Hong Kong family with a global business empire in preparing and negotiating the terms of a pre-nuptial agreement.

  • Advised the son of a Hong Kong tycoon in structuring a trust to hold assets from his late father’s estate to facilitate settlement of ongoing disputes among the family members and preparing the related deed of family arrangement.

  • Assisted the executors of their late mother’s estate on the administration of her estate which by her Will was to be ‘decanted’ into a trust set up by her during her lifetime, and advised the beneficiaries of such a trust on the distributions from the trust fund which involves complex tax advice (as the beneficiaries include UK and US residents) and consideration of indemnities requested by the trustee and the protector.
