Sandy focuses on designing and implementing wealth structuring strategies that support long-term, multi-generational objectives, including asset protection and succession, while managing income and estate tax considerations. Sandy works closely with clients and their other advisers to deliver coordinated, practical solutions tailored to complex personal and cross-border matters.
His practice covers domestic and international tax and estate planning for US and non-US individuals resident in the US and abroad. He advises private clients on a myriad of tax and other issues, including US transfer tax planning pre-immigration structuring, cross-border tax planning, such as efficient investment holding structures, and US tax compliance. Sandy’s practice encompasses citizenship and residency issues from a tax perspective, including renunciation and relinquishment. He has a particular focus on UK and US estate and tax matters for individuals and families with trans-Atlantic connections.
He advises on a broad range of wealth transfer strategies, including trust structures, lifetime gifting and family investment arrangements with substantial expertise in the issues involved in planning with carried interest for private fund professionals. Sandy has extensive family office experience, with a particular emphasis on the income and transfer tax considerations involved in the creation and ongoing operation of family offices.
Drawing on his experience both in private practice and working with major financial institutions, Sandy has a detailed understanding of trust administration for multi-generational families and the practical considerations involved in working with trustees and beneficiaries.
Sandy holds a J.D., magna cum laude, from Boston College Law School, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif, and a B.A., with distinction, from Yale University. He is a member of the New York State Bar Association, Connecticut Bar Association, American Bar Association, the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and the Estate Planning Council of New York.
