Charles Russell Speechlys advises AgDevCo on investment into Rwandan maize producer and on Ugandan joint venture

Charles Russell Speechlys has advised AgDevCo on two of its latest investments, the first into Minimex Limited, one of Rwanda's leading producers of maize product, and the second into the development of a commercial pig farm in Kampala, Uganda.

AgDevCo is a social impact investor and project developer operating exclusively in the agriculture sector in Sub-Saharan Africa. Its mission is to build successful African agribusinesses through long-term investment and support, in order to deliver positive impact at scale. Currently working in nine sub-Saharan African countries, AgDevCo invests in socially-responsible businesses, operating across the agri-supply chain. In addition to direct investment, AgDevCo provides on-the-ground technical support and specialist agricultural advice to management teams.

Adrian Mayer, who led on the deals, commented: "We were delighted to work with the team at AgDevCo on these two investments. With our focus on Africa and extensive expertise advising in the region, we were ideally placed to provide the tailored legal advice required. We look forward to working with AgDevCo further as it continues to execute its strategy in Africa".

Speaking about the involvement of Charles Russell Speechlys, Melissa Manzo, General Counsel at AgDevCo said:

"We are very grateful to the Charles Russell Speechlys team for their invaluable assistance on these two transactions. At AgDevCo we see these deals as having a potential for a very significant development impact, through Minimex's work with thousands of Rwandan smallholder farmers, and through Nakifuma Farming Company's modernisation of the Ugandan pork industry. We very much appreciate the support, experience and guidance of the Charles Russell Speechlys team and their contribution to the successful close of these transactions."

The Charles Russell Speechlys team was led by Corporate partner Adrian Mayer, with support from Corporate Associate Matthew Hobbs.
