1st Guildford Boys’ Brigade to receive grant from Charles Russell Speechlys Community Fund
Charles Russell Speechlys has announced the latest recipient of its Community Fund with a grant of £2,800 to the 1st Guildford Boys Brigade for new kayaking and camping equipment. The firm’s Community Fund supports charities and projects in the Guildford area which focus on employment, training and skills initiatives, particularly those for young people. This is the first grant the firm has made since it announced the doubling of its Fund in its second year of operation.
The Boys’ Brigade application received unanimous support from a volunteer panel of lawyers and support staff assessing applications. They were particularly impressed by the group’s aim to provide access to opportunities for young people that they would not ordinarily have.
Sally Ashford, partner at Charles Russell Speechlys in Guildford said: “We are thrilled to support the 1st Guildford Boys’ Brigade with this grant. The new equipment will help the group, and their counterparts at the Girls’ Brigade, learn new skills, encourage teamwork and enjoy the great outdoors.” Kate Peters from the Community Foundation for Surrey said “The Community Foundation is very pleased to support Charles Russell Speechlys’ grant making. The staff panel take the decision making very seriously and it is wonderful to see Charles Russell Speechlys making connections with local charities and groups above and beyond the grant award.”
Peter Curran, Captain of 1st Guildford Boys' Brigade, commented "We are delighted to have received the grant from Charles Russell Speechlys Community Fund. It will enable the children and young people of Guildford Boys' and Girls' Brigades to take part in some exciting outdoor activities, which we know they will enjoy and learn from. And it is very encouraging to see a company taking such a supportive interest in the local community."
