Charles Russell Speechlys appoints international private client partner to Zurich office
Charles Russell Speechlys has appointed David Cooney as an international private client partner to its Zurich office, effective 20 February 2017. This follows the appointment of three Swiss partners in July 2016 and brings the total number of partners in the firm’s Swiss offices to six.
Charles Russell Speechlys has a significant presence providing cross-border legal and tax advice in the major European centres of private wealth management, including Zurich and Geneva. David’s appointment affirms this and builds on the firm’s already strong base and market leading reputation in legal and tax advisory services to international wealthy clients and the institutions that service them.
David was admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales in 2003, as an attorney-at-law in the Cayman Islands in 2012 and as a solicitor in the British Virgin Islands in 2014. Prior to joining Charles Russell Speechlys, David was a partner in Ogier’s Cayman Islands office, where he headed the Private client and Trusts team (Caribbean region). David is recognised as a leading individual for private client legal advice in the Cayman Islands by Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners; with the latter reporting that “he is probably the best trust lawyer of his generation in the Cayman Islands. He is very commercial, very knowledgeable, very responsive, very thorough and a pleasure to work with.”
James Carter, Managing Partner at Charles Russell Speechlys says: “We are delighted to welcome David to our Zurich office. He brings a unique expertise to the firm, having spent the last five years advising ultra-high net worth clients on a range of trust and private client matters, from the Cayman Islands. The fact that he is also English qualified and a Chartered Tax Advisor strengthens our offering to private clients with complex international and cross-border issues.”
