Charles Russell Speechlys promotes nine to partnership
Charles Russell Speechlys is promoting nine lawyers to partner in its second promotion round post-merger, almost double the number promoted to partner in 2015.
The promotions – which come from across a range of the firm’s divisions and UK offices – reflect both confidence within the firm and the hard work, legal expertise and dedication to client service of the nine new partners.
The new partners are:
Jamie Cartwright – Litigation Dispute Resolution, Guildford
Jamie specialises in handling commercial and corporate disputes, as well as providing advice, particularly to in-house counsel, on contentious and potentially contentious matters. In addition to his work in the courts, Jamie has experience in arbitration and alternative dispute resolution, mediation and expert determination.
David Coates – Corporate, London
David specialises in corporate finance advisory and transactional work for both public and private companies. His experience includes mergers and acquisitions, private equity and corporate reorganisations. David also acts for a number of growth companies and angel investors.
Thomas Duggins – Family, London
Thomas advises on all areas of family law, with a particular emphasis on financial claims that arise on divorce, civil partnership dissolution and in cohabitation disputes. This includes advising on wealth protection via nuptial, civil partnership and cohabitation agreements.
James Eighteen – Litigation Dispute Resolution, London
James specialises in advising clients in the sport, gambling and TMT sectors. He has particular experience in the sports sector advising governing bodies, teams and individuals in relation to regulatory matters, litigation, disciplinary committees and arbitration (including before the Court of Arbitration for Sport).
Martin Griffiths – Corporate Tax, London
Martin advises on all aspects of corporate tax law with areas of expertise including domestic and international tax structuring, tax on corporate and property transactions, investment fund tax issues, private equity structuring, stamp duties and value added tax. Martin also specialises in employee share schemes and remuneration planning.
William Marriott – Private Property, Guildford
William heads the Private Property team in Guildford, and acts on behalf of clients in relation to all of their private property requirements. He specialises in the acquisition and disposal of property across the South of England and has considerable experience dealing with country houses and properties on private estates.
Tamasin Perkins – Contentious Trusts and Estates, London
Tamasin advises high-net worth individuals, trustees and fiduciaries on complex international trust disputes including sham, breach of trust claims, mistake and claims involving protectors. She also advises trustees on administration actions such as applications for directions.
Ben Smith – Employment, Guildford
Ben advises on a wide range of employment matters, both contentious and non-contentious. He has particular expertise in providing practical commercial advice to corporate clients on the whole range of HR issues, including disciplinary and grievance processes, redundancy and re-structuring programmes, TUPE, discrimination and dismissals.
Nicola Thorpe – Private Client, London
Nicola advises on a wide range of private wealth matters, including international and domestic personal tax, trust structuring, succession and estate planning. Nicola's clients include high net worth individuals, trustees, family offices and private banks.
In addition to the nine promotions to partner, there are also 22 promotions to legal director and senior associate this year. Of the 31 being promoted, 14 have been with the firm since they were trainees, demonstrating the firm’s commitment to cultivating talent.
