Speechly Bircham shortlisted for national CSR award

This article was written prior to the formation of Charles Russell Speechlys, through the merger between Charles Russell and Speechly Bircham.

Speechly Bircham is delighted to have been shortlisted as a finalist in the Giving to the Community category of the Peer Awards 2014.

The Peer Awards scheme, sponsored by the Independent newspaper, recognises businesses that have consistently demonstrated high standards of corporate governance, social responsibility and employee engagement.

We have been shortlisted for our work on "Life Matters", a project which provides support to the elderly group at Blackfriars Settlement. Life Matters provides the elderly group with relevant legal skills, such as how to approach writing a will, or lasting powers of attorney.

Education is seen as the dominion of the young, however, the elderly can also benefit from re-skilling to help them cope with later life stages. The topics covered in Life Matters are often challenging and so our trainees present them in a light-hearted and informative manner, using skits, characters and role plays.

The next stage is to attend and present at the Peer Awards Conference in June where our award will be judged by our peers.
