HS2 Update – The Second Reading of the HS2 Hybrid Bill
The timetable for petitioning against the HS2 Hybrid Bill has now been decided. It has now been announced that the Second Reading of the Bill will take place on 28 April 2014 (currently there is room for the debate to finish at the later than normal time of 11pm), with part of the next day given to the issues arising from the debate and the logistics of select committee etc. In addition, the proposed deadline for the submission of petitions against HS2 is only 2-3 weeks later for many petitioners (ie 16 May 2014 for local authorities, excluding parish councils, and businesses, and 23 May for individuals and all other petitioners).
As will be clear, if this timetable is confirmed, there will be a very short period of time for petitions to be prepared and submitted. It is therefore essential that anyone affected or potentially affected by HS2 acts now without delay.
