Charles Mallows writes for City AM on the impracticality of a slowdown in AI development

Charles Mallows, Associate in the Commercial team, writes for City AM on how a slowdown on the development of advanced AI is unlikely. This follows the publication of an open letter signed by over 1,000 signatories, including numerous tech leaders.

In the article, Charles explains how difficult it would be to reach cross-industry or cross-jurisdictional consensus. A pause, he argues, will achieve little without the backing of the major market players.

Charles also looks at the letter's publication in the context of the UK government releasing its white paper for AI regulation in the very same week. The whitepaper explains that the government intends to take a "relatively hands-off approach to regulation", in which no overarching regulator will be ultimately responsible.
