Strategic land - understanding the opportunities for your clients

An estimated 300,000 new homes are needed in England every year for the next decade to keep pace with demand. At the same time political parties are promoting housebuilding as a key policy objective. With residential planning permission increasing agricultural land values by up to 275 times, and landowners making more than ÂŁ13 billion in profit alone in 2016/17*, a detailed understanding of the opportunities available to your land-owning clients is a key pillar of their wealth management strategy.

In this seminar we will cover:

  • how strategic land sales can be structured through options, promotions and land pooling;
  • planning and construction risks and give examples of how successful collaboration and development agreements can be negotiated with developers; and
  • corporate and personal tax issues relating to strategic land including stamp duty land tax, capital gains tax (including entrepreneurs’ relief) and inheritance tax; and
