Charles Russell Speechlys today publishes episode two in its second series of the ‘Client Conversations’ podcast, hosted by Managing Partner, Simon Ridpath, and other lawyers from around the Firm. This episode, Simon is joined by Miranda Fisher, Family Partner, and renowned former cricketer, Mark Ramprakash, who is among just 25 players in the game to have scored 100 first-class centuries.
Mark’s illustrious cricketing career saw him play for Middlesex, Surrey and England, earning recognition as Wisden Cricketer of the Year and PCA Player of the Year in 2007 thanks to his 2026 first-class runs. Upon his retirement from the game in 2012, Mark became the batting coach at Middlesex, and later served as the batting coach for England in 2015, helping an enviable batting lineup towards a World Cup victory in 2019. Alongside his current role as batting coach, Mark serves as President for Middlesex and director of cricket for Harrow School.
Outside cricket, Mark has diversified into a TV personality, trainer, mentor, and journalist.
Previous episodes have featured one of the best strikers of all time, Alan Shearer CBE, the world’s most prolific producer of musicals in theatre history, Sir Cameron Mackintosh, philanthropist Dame Steve Shirley, who pioneered a career in the information technology sector, and Sir Martin Smith, who was a founder and senior partner of Phoenix Securities.

It was a pleasure to reflect on my cricketing career, which I look back on with a great deal of fondness and to be part of a dialogue that I hope will inspire and support others in their personal and professional lives. It's incredibly rewarding now to channel that experience into guiding the next generation. Throughout my career, the mentorship from senior players was pivotal; it's a legacy I aim to continue. As a mentor, my goal is to foster not only the technical skills of young cricketers but also to instil resilience and a positive mindset.
