Charles Russell Speechlys strengthens UK Tax practice with strategic hire of Carolyn Steppler

Charles Russell Speechlys today announces the significant strengthening of its UK Tax practice with the arrival of Carolyn Steppler as a UK Tax Consultant in the Firm’s Zurich office.

Carolyn is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England & Wales and is renowned for her expertise in UK taxation. Her experience and knowledge will be especially valuable to individuals and families as they prepare for sweeping changes to the UK tax regime which are expected to be introduced from April 2025.

With a career spanning over two and a half decades, she brings deep expertise in UK personal tax matters. Most recently Carolyn has worked as a wealth planner at Credit Suisse (now UBS), where she was Head of Wealth Planning UK, and the leader of the European Wealth Planning team pre-merger.  These roles have equipped her with an acute understanding of the wealth management needs and challenges for ultra-high net worth (UHNW) individuals and family offices. Carolyn’s previous roles include private client tax partner at Ernst & Young LLP UK in London, Associate Partner at KPMG London, and Head of the Specialist Tax Group at HSBC Private Bank in London.

At Charles Russell Speechlys, Carolyn will continue to assist clients with estate and succession planning, investment structures for private wealth and relocation, which will be particularly relevant in light of the UK budget announcements.

Carolyn’s appointment follows a number of recent arrivals at Charles Russell Speechlys, including the appointment of Corporate Tax Partner James Stewart in London last month, further cementing the Firm's commitment to providing comprehensive tax and legal services to its UHNW clients.

Mark Summers, Head of International Tax, Charles Russell Speechlys Switzerland, comments:

We are at a pivotal moment with the UK budget announcements and Carolyn’s arrival could not be more timely. Her profound experience in UK private client tax, coupled with her extensive international network, makes her an invaluable asset to our team. Carolyn’s strategic insight will be instrumental in navigating our clients through the complexities of the new UK tax landscape.

Carolyn Steppler adds:

Joining Charles Russell Speechlys during such a dynamic period is an opportunity I embrace wholeheartedly. The combination of the upcoming UK tax changes and the evolving needs of our international clients presents a unique challenge.  I look forward to contributing to the Firm’s distinguished legacy by providing top-tier tax guidance and wealth planning services.
