Mark Bailey reflects on the UK's planned Cyber Security Bill in Security Brief and Ecommerce News
min readThe UK Government has outlined proposals for a new Cyber Security and Resilience Bill alongside voluntary digital identity initiatives, following references to forthcoming digital legislation in the King’s Speech. The measures form part of the Government’s broader approach to strengthening the UK’s digital and cyber framework.
This Bill is expected to play a significant role in the UK's wider cyber strategy, alongside initiatives aimed at encouraging organisations to adopt the Cyber Resilience Pledge and ongoing development of digital identity services, including GOV.UK One Login.
The proposals reflect continued regulatory and policy focus on cyber resilience across critical infrastructure, public services, and private sector organisations. Businesses might see increased regulatory expectations in areas such as governance, incident reporting, supply chain security and cryptography, as the legislative framework develops further.
Mark Bailey, Partner in our Commercial team, comments in Security Brief and eCommerceNews:
This inclusion is important but perhaps unsurprising, given that the Government has consistently treated the Bill as a key part of its wider cyber policy agenda. It shows that ministers remain focused on strengthening the UK's cyber resilience, particularly around critical infrastructure, supply chains and the cyber integrity of individual businesses.
Businesses should expect more detailed guidance as the Bill progresses, along with greater scrutiny of incident reporting, governance and supply chain security.
