eprivateclient profiles Suzanne Marriott, Head of Art & Luxury

min read

What does it mean to advise collectors of art and luxury assets?

For Suzanne Marriott, advising clients on their art and luxury collections taps into an innate 'magpie' inclination to seek out beauty, rarity and escapism. Advising in this space means engaging with clients on a personal level, understanding not just the asset but the story, sentiment and legacy attached to it. That combination of emotion, creativity, and complex cross‑border structuring makes the work compelling.

Suzanne Marriott, Partner and Head of Art & Luxury in our Private Client division, speaks to eprivateclient about her journey into law, the main challenges facing luxury assets and the best piece of career advice she has received:

I’m drawn to this area because luxury assets are tangible objects that hold emotional weight far beyond their material value. They excite passion, spark curiosity and, at times, defy all logic when people decide to acquire them.  Of course, AI is reshaping the landscape: it offers exciting opportunities for authentication and cataloguing, but equally introduces risks around deepfakes, digital replicas and challenges to originality.
