The Lawyer cites our Firm in a podcast on AI and Innovation in the legal sector

min read

In the latest edition of The Lawyer's podcast series, Catrin Griffiths, Editor, Matt Byrne, Director of Insight, Christian Smith, Litigation Editor, and Lucie Cruz, Tech Editor, sit down to discuss AI and innovation in the legal sector, what various firms are doing in the space, and what the future might bring.

The podcast covers a range of topics, from some of the most interesting AI solutions being used by different law firms, and the potential impact of new technologies on law firm structures, to who the hosts believe are the boldest law firms when it comes to innovation and AI (compared to other firms who are perhaps more conservative or don't shout quite as loudly about the work they are doing, even though there may be a lot happening behind the scenes). The episode also covers the theme of leadership - and how having strong individuals at the top of organisations is one of the most important aspects of ensuring a firmwide focus on AI and innovation.

Our Firm's approach, following the appointment of Joe Cohen, Director of Advanced Client Solutions in December 2023, is also discussed, with one of the hosts noting:

What we found [..] is how quickly priorities can change when leadership commits, and that’s definitely the case for Charles Russell Speechlys, who were not known for innovation a few years ago.

"Then they onboarded Joe Cohen who is well-known for his work previously at Dentons, and he’s gone straight in to developing both its profile around innovation, looking to launch a software product, making sure that they’re really at the forefront of looking at how they train junior lawyers, the kind of opportunities they offer them around tech and AI and client service […] at the point at which we spoke to him for the innovation map, he’d been there for about a year and had built out an entire team from scratch – which goes to show both his vision but also the firm’s commitment to innovation.
