The Daily Telegraph quotes Rose Carey on some American citizens choosing to relocate to the UK
Interest in Britain's shores - especially from wealthy Americans - is reportedly on the increase.
The Daily Telegraph reports that US citizens are "flocking to Britain to avoid gun violence and snap up attractively priced homes". Some tax and immigration lawyers have reportedly been inundated by Americans since November's presidential election, while the Good Schools Guide says inquiries from US parents about British schools are up 250 per cent so far this year compared with late 2024.
The Telegraph goes on to report that a record 6,100 Americans applied to become UK citizens last year, an annual rise of 26 per cent, according to the Home Office. More than 170,000 American expats already reside in the UK, according to Global Citizen Solutions, while figures from Knight Frank show that US nationals are now the largest overseas buyer group of the most expensive property in central London, accounting for 11.6 per cent of sales in the final three months of last year. In the country house market over £2.5 million, the number of registered buyers from the US more than doubled year on year in February, according to Strutt & Parker.
Rose Carey, Partner and Head of Immigration, is quoted in the article. Rose explains that one reason US nationals might be choosing to relocate to the UK is the fact that "the UK and US allow dual and multiple nationality, which is a contributing factor in the spike in citizenship applications [...] It is also possible in many cases to acquire British citizenship through a grandparent born in the UK".
