Drapers quotes Kerry Stares on the potential for a review of the Modern Slavery Act 2015
A slew of regulations including the CSRD, CSDDD and ESPR are expected to begin making waves in the sustainability space this year.
Leading fashion retail publication Drapers spells out what the different regulations mean for fashion retail businesses. The legislation in comprised of European Union directives. Drapers reports that conforming to these EU-wide regulations, whether sooner or later, will be "unavoidable for retailers and suppliers that trade in or with the bloc".
The three regulations in question are the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), and the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR).
As part of the article, Kerry Stares, Partner & Director of Responsible Business and Pro Bono, is quoted alongside other industry leaders. Kerry explains that the Modern Slavery Act 2015 is also important to consider. She comments:
The new UK government has so far indicated that it will review the existing Modern Slavery Act 2015, which, while groundbreaking 10 years ago, is now criticised as setting the bar too low [...]
"Many businesses are [now] urging government to align with the human rights requirements of the CSDDD and level the playing field for companies doing significant business in or with the UK and the EU".
