RTHK interviews Patrick Chan on the rise of sports arbitration in Hong Kong
Patrick Chan, Partner in our Dispute Resolution team in Hong Kong, is interviewed alongside a panel of expert guests for Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK), giving his views on the recent push to turn Hong Kong into a centre for sports arbitration.
The interview coincides with a four-day conference in Hong Kong aimed at promoting the importance of sports law and arbitration, organised by the Law Society. The symposium (called the 2025 Sports Law Mega Event) explores the connection between sports, law, and business and features a number of activities held with the goal of facilitating exchanges between lawyers and visiting guests.
In the RTHK segment, Patrick and the guests explore questions including (but not limited to):
- How significant is this development? Is it a generally positive move for Hong Kong (and more broadly)?
- What inspired the government to pursue the goal of turning Hong Kong into a centre for Sports arbitration?
- Why Hong Kong over other jurisdictions?
- What does this mean for stakeholders? What are the implications for the legal sector (and of course participants in the sports market)?
