Benoît Pasquier and Alex Needham write for City AM on ensuring a more equitable future at the Olympic Games

On the final weekend of the 2024 Paralympic Games, Benoît Pasquier, Partner in the Dispute Resolution team in our Zurich office, and Alex Needham, Associate in the Commercial team in our London office, co-author an opinion piece for City AM on what is needed from governing bodies in sport to ensure a more equitable future at the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

In the article, Benoît and Alex explain the complexity of the task, which involves a "highly intricate ecosystem of organisations, including the International Olympic Committee (IOC), National Olympic Committees (NOCs), international and national sports federations, and governments (collectively “the governing bodies”), all working in tandem to create conditions that allow for fair competition."

They go onto detail some of the significant investments made by the IOC alone in the lead up to the Paris 2024 Olympics, but explain that, despite many of the successes that can be observed, further considerations need to be undertaken globally by the governing bodies to assist athletes hoping to compete in future events.
