FT Weekend's House & Home Ski Living Special quotes Grégoire Uldry on the appeal of relocating to the Swiss Alps

With the rise of 'digital nomads' in the aftermath of the pandemic, the ability to work from almost anywhere has led to a growing interest in converting ski-holiday destinations into year-round homes, making the Swiss Alps an increasingly attractive option for this lifestyle.

Following changes to the non-dom regime announced in the UK budget, there has been a significant surge in UK residents looking to move to Switzerland. The number of applicants has increased fivefold this year compared to last.

It is reported that Andermatt, Wengen, and Verbier are  particularly popular due to favourable lump sum tax agreements.

Grégoire Uldry, Private Client Partner in our Geneva office, says:

As well as from the UK, we also noticed an increase in inquiries coming from the US after the elections in 2016. We anticipate this to be the case again this year.

For prospective international arrivals, the resorts that top the list for being suitable for living in all year round usually have three qualities: good infrastructure, access to well-functioning international airports and snow.
