Hubbis interviews Ivan Lu on multi-jurisdictional family wealth and succession

Following the arrival of a new International Tax team to our Firm on 2 April 2024, Asian wealth management publication Hubbis interviews Ivan Lu, a Partner of the International Private Client team.

In the interview, Ivan discusses his areas of focus and some of the key trends he is witnessing amongst Asian high-net-worth (HNW) and ultra high-net-worth (UHNW) clients seeking multi-jurisdictional tax, estate and legacy structuring advice in the region.

Ivan discusses a number of interesting areas and trends, including:

  • The significant connection many Asian families have with the United States;
  • The technical aspects of renouncing US citizenship, and associated challenges (e.g. unwinding from the US from a regulatory and tax perspective);
  • Challenges facing UHNW families from China and Taiwan in particular - and practical solutions to those challenges;
  • The evolving landscape of estate planning and family governance in the context of Chinese markets;
  • A 'sharp rise' in demand for structured company and family governance (such as family offices and dedicated advisors).
