Sarah Bergougnoux and Anne-Marie Boissonnas write for City AM, as part of our Paris Olympics series, on whether France will remain an attractive tax jurisdiction for professional sportspeople
The tax treatment of international athletes is a significant factor in where they choose to compete or establish their careers.
With the Olympics taking place in Paris, it should be noted that France is a rather attractive jurisdiction for athletes. The country does a lot through its tax regime to cater for them.
Even though the various tax regimes were not initially put in place specifically for sportspeople, it is a real lever for attracting top-level athletes to France, and goes a long way towards making France an attractive place for them to set up shop and compete.
In a joint article, Sarah Bergougnoux, Of Counsel and Anne-Marie Boissonnas, Partner, write for City AM on sport, tax and the Olympics. They address why France is attractive for international athletes and explore whether France will remain an attractive jurisdiction for professional sportspeople in light of possible tax changes following the latest snap elections.
