Sara Wilson and Izzie Beddard write for People Management on the 'right to switch off'

Since its announcement, Labour’s proposal to introduce a new 'right to switch off' (should it win the next general election) has garnered a lot of interest. The proposal is one of many suggested employment law reforms that purport to give workers greater rights, forming Labour’s ‘New deal for working people’. 

There is currently little detail surrounding this headline-grabbing proposal but, essentially, this new right to disconnect would mean that employers will find themselves restricted from contacting workers outside of normal working hours to better protect employees’ work-life balance.
