min readRecently, there has been widespread speculation that some training contract and vacation scheme applications received by law firms have been written using ChatGPT.
Simon Ridpath, Managing Partner, indicates that the Firm has received multiple applications which used noticeably similar language, indicating that the generative AI technology was likely used.
He says:
“When you’re looking at them alongside each other, you realise that there’s an element of self-learned knowledge, and you’re seeing the exact same phrases.”
Simon outlines that as long as individuals are open about it, there might be advantages to using the generative AI technology.
“In some ways, I think it’s quite innovative.
“The problem is you can’t work out who was first because obviously the way you spot it is that it’s using virtually identical phrases about the firm. Someone has applied a chatbot first, and then the next person who has asked a chatbot has already benefited from the groundwork that the other person has already done—and the one that has merely mimicked it, or done it the second or third time, probably is just a bit lazy.”
