Syma Spanjers writes for People Management on flexibility around religious holiday requests

min read

As many recently celebrated Eid-al-Adha, Syma Spanjers, Senior Associate, outlines the legal considerations when it comes to granting time off for religious festivals.

In the article she outlines:

  • How much notice is required when requesting holiday?
  • Is it possible to reject a holiday request for lack of sufficient notice?
  • What if it is not possible to accommodate the holiday request?

Syma concludes:

"As always, maintaining an open dialogue with staff about their holiday requests is essential for ensuring good employee relations. Employers should adopt a reasonable and flexible approach towards accepting holiday requests in order to allow employees time off to observe religious festivals."
