A practical guide to choosing the right AI tools for your law firm: The big idea

min read

Accelerated Assessment of AI solutions

Lawyers expect AI now, not six months from now. Here’s why speed is critical.

Traditional AI pilots take 6–9 months. That’s far too long when lawyers rely on AI daily. Pilot fatigue kills adoption, and every delay risks losing confidence. So, what do you do when your trusted AI vendor disappears overnight? Most law firms start months-long pilots. We did something different, and faster.

In March 2025, our custom AI solution vendor was acquired by another law firm. Exciting for the industry, but risky for us. We needed a replacement quickly, without losing momentum or trust.

Instead of traditional pilots, we designed a two-week comparative assessment that would generate enough structured data to make a confident investment decision: five vendors, 46 lawyers, 7,000 data points.

We tested vendors side by side, under real conditions, and scored them on what really matters. No artificial scenarios, no endless waiting, just real practice tasks and structured scoring.

The result? We made a confident decision without sacrificing momentum. More importantly, the analysis revealed what lawyers actually value when choosing AI products. These findings challenge, or at least add colour to, how the industry currently approaches AI assessment.

We’re sharing details on our methodology and findings because the legal industry needs better frameworks for AI evaluation, and better data on what drives adoption.
