Freight and logistics – still on the agenda

The government’s call for evidence on logistics and the planning system (which we wrote about here) closed in October 2023 after receiving over one hundred responses from stakeholders (which we highlighted here).

The government recently responded to the Transport Select Committee's Report on the draft revised National Networks National Policy Statement noting that the government recognises that freight and logistics depend heavily on the planning system.

The government, as seen via its call to evidence, is keen to identify and enable targeted interventions to support the freight sector (see here on page 14) and has confirmed that it is currently analysing the responses to the call to evidence.

A government report will be published in due course.

The freight and logistics sector has a critical role supporting UK supply chains. It underpins the UK’s prosperity, health, wellbeing and security by maintaining the flow of goods into, out of and across the country
