UK opens door to citizenship for 300,000 HK residents
We have already seen an increase in queries from Hong Kong residents who wish to consider their UK immigration options, driven by the recent situation in Hong Kong.
China has now approved national security legislation on Hong Kong. If the legislation is implemented, it will be interesting to see if the British Government will go ahead with Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab’s pledge to extend UK immigration rights of British National (Overseas) passport holders. This could include granting a right of residence for work or study for extendable periods of 12 months, and with a route to full British citizenship for some 300,000 holders of such passport.
Dominic Raab, foreign secretary, has pledged to extend visa rights for British National (Overseas) passport holders and facilitate their path to British citizenship unless Beijing rows back from plans to impose national security laws on Hong Kong.
