EasyJet's easy solution?

It seems that innovation is key during the COVID-19 crisis as EasyJet have recently announced social distancing proposals once lockdown has been lifted. EasyJet chief executive Johan Lundgren has announced plans to keep the middle seats empty on flights to encourage more people to fly in the future when they resume take off.

This announcement comes after airlines have previously expressed concerns about their long term viability without government assistance during the global pandemic. However, EasyJet has also announced that it has a cash balance of around £3.3 billion, and based on a number of scenarios, their current reserves would keep them "liquid", should its aircraft remain grounded for up to nine months.

This proposal comes hot on the heels of other businesses hit by COVID-19 restrictions trying to innovate to weather the storm.

Would these measures encourage you to travel by air when lockdown is lifted?

EasyJet plans to keep the middle seat on its planes empty to allow for social distancing once the Covid-19 lockdown has been lifted.
