Extra Time: The Changing Face Of Sport And Law

Sport has undergone a remarkable transformation over the past two decades, evolving from a relationship-driven industry into a highly regulated, commercially complex global business. As regulatory scrutiny, financial pressures and stakeholder expectations continue to grow, the role of lawyers has expanded far beyond legal advice to encompass strategic leadership, governance and risk management. From navigating social media and reputation challenges to embracing emerging technologies such as AI, sports organisations must strike the right balance between innovation, regulation and long-term sustainability to protect and grow the game.

In this episode of Extra Time, Jason Saiban, Partner in the Commercial team, and Darren Bailey, Consultant at Charles Russell Speechlys, welcomed Ashley Cox, Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel of Aquatics GB (formerly GB Swimming) to discuss the future of sport and the governing principles surrounding them.
