Sustainable repurposing and planning

The retail sector is changing. The combination of the online revolution, the COVID-19 crisis plus the burden of business rates and high rents has led to an oversupply in the market.

As such the level of redundant Real Estate continues to rise – but what should we do with all this space?

Whether its converting to leisure or rebuilding as an office or residential space, the opportunities for investors and developers to meet new demands in a changing market are there.

Charles Russell Speechlys, Savills, New River and Chapman Taylor presented a webinar and panel discussion on Tuesday 1 December on Sustainable Repurposing and Planning.

Tom Whittington, Director of Commercial Research at Savills, began by outlining the key trends in Retail Repurposing, followed by an expert panel:
• Matthew Sobic, Director, Commercial Planning, Savills
• Adrian Griffiths, Group Board Director UK, Chapman Taylor
Claire Fallows, Partner, Charles Russell Speechlys
• Paul Wright, Director, New River

Chaired by Robin Grove, Head of Division and Retail Repurposing, Charles Russell Speechlys.

Topics discussed included:
• Mixed use developments
• Master planning
• The positives of new planning law and
• Planning strategies.

Please don't hesistate to contact Robin Grove, Claire Fallows or your usual Charles Russell Speechlys team member if you have further questions.
