Senior Associate – Commercial Dispute Resolution (5-8 PQE)

The role will cover a wide range of Commercial Dispute related work. This role will fulfil a senior position including being responsible for client service, seeking new business opportunities and supporting junior members of the team. This is a role with considerable client contact, a large amount of responsibility and experience of a wide variety of disputes, often involving complex international and sports dispute and regulatory subject matters for some of the firm’s key clients.

The team has considerable breadth and depth with expertise across a variety of sectors and services including: 

  • Energy and Natural Resources
  • Financial Services
  • Healthcare
  • IT and Communications
  • Luxury Retail
  • Media 
  • Pharmaceutical
  • Sport

  • Contractual disputes
  • Financial Services claims
  • Minority shareholder actions
  • Professional negligence
  • Shareholder activism
  • Crisis management (including corporate/criminal/regulatory liability)
  • Fraud and asset tracing matters

Roles and Responsibilities 

  • Take a ‘hands on’ approach to managing own files and a broad case load
  • Work closely with and support more senior fee earners and Partners in more complex disputes involving companies and individuals in a variety of industries and sectors 
  • Engage in client marketing and business development activities including attending internal and external events
  • Draft more complex documents with minimum instruction and supervision
  • Provide client advice in a succinct, practical and persuasive manner
  • Apply a commercial approach to research and evaluate relevance and accuracy in delivery of advice
  • Contribute to divisional knowledge and know-how initiatives 
  • Build rapport with clients and develop an effective working relationship
  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills with junior colleagues including delegation, mentoring and coaching skills

Person Specification

  • Hong Kong qualified
  • Chinese speaking, reading and writing skills preferable
  • Civil Litigation and international arbitration experience
  • Demonstrates good judgement and a good legal and commercial understanding of client’s particular needs 
  • Understands scope of task, manages time effectively and performs well under time and work pressures.
  • Have the ability to develop effective working relationships at all levels
  • Be confident in both verbal and written communication with a diverse range of clients
  • Be a strong team player
  • Have a flexible approach and willing to go the extra mile
