Real Estate Associate 2-3 PQE

We have a fantastic opportunity for an Associate (2-3 PQE) to join our team, based in Cheltenham. The role will suit someone who has excellent people skills who is looking to develop their career within a friendly collegiate team that is widely recognised for its expertise in this area.

The individual will have experience and interest in handling work for a mixture of clients (property funds including SIPPs and SSAS trusts, high net worth individuals, partnerships, charities, banks and companies). 

The Cheltenham office team consists of three Partners, three Senior Associates, three Associates, two Paralegals and one Trainee supported by the Internal Client Services team.

The recruit will be working primarily with Ian Brothwood and Nigel Morton.

Ian Brothwood heads up the Strategic Land Focus Group acting for landowners in relation to large scale residential development schemes but also acts for a range of clients on work types including landlord and tenant, secured lending, investment sales and purchases.   

Nigel Morton has a wide range of clients ranging from national funds, housebuilders, landed estates and owners of Industrial estates and mixed-use developments.

 

Role and Responsibilities (this is a broad but not exhaustive list)

 

•      To assist with the clients and work types described above

•      To deliver highly efficient, professional and creative service to the existing clients of the department

•      To deliver advice of the highest technical competence

•      To ensure the retention of clients allocated to him/her and further enhancement of our relationship with them

•      To proactively seek to work with other Group members in the marketing of the firm’s services and the expansion of the Real Estate’s business of the firm

 

Person Specification

 

•      An ability to win the confidence of clients, members of the Real Estate team and the wider firm

•      Effective, sound decision making and excellent organisational skills

•      Reliability, commitment, enthusiasm and ambition

•      Skills to support other Group members in their service, including through thorough and accurate research in technically difficult areas and concise presentation of the same

•      Team skills

•      Technical expertise of both commercial and mixed use real estate 

•      Draft more complex documents with minimum instruction and supervision

•      Provide client advice in a succinct, practical and persuasive manner

•      Apply a commercial approach to research and evaluate relevance and accuracy in delivery of advice

•      Financial acumen and a strong commercial approach to legal practice

•      The ability to sell the services of the Real Estate Group and the firm

•      Demonstrate strong leadership skills with junior colleagues including delegation, mentoring and coaching skills

•      Engage in client marketing and be able to lead on business development activities including attending internal and external events

•      Be confident to work autonomously and as part of a team

•      Demonstrate excellent time management skills

•      Be organised and capable of running a significant number of files and work matters simultaneously

•      Have the ability to develop effective working relations at all level

•      Be confident in both verbal and written communication with a diverse range of clients

•      Have a flexible approach and willing to go the extra mile

•      A genuine interest in our clients’ affairs/businesses
