About

Rachael has extensive experience (contentious and non-contentious) in planning and environmental law across a range of sectors. She advises various entities undertaking due diligence for corporate and financing transactions, acquisition and disposal, development projects, and advises on enforcement and prosecution matters. Rachael has been involved in a number of recent leading planning decisions in the High Court and Court of Appeal.

Prior to joining Charles Russell Speechlys in 2021, Rachael practised law at a leading international firm in London with a particular focus on the renewable energy sector.

Rachael is admitted to practice as a barrister and solicitor in New Zealand.

Experience

  • Advising on the planning aspects of the acquisition of an office block and surrounding development and the subsequent pre-let development conversion to 67,017sq ft of car showroom space, including a successful appeal against the local planning authority and costs proceedings.
  • Advising clients in relation to the drafting and negotiating of planning and highways agreements and providing bespoke advice in relation to the HMO licensing regime.
  • Advising a lender on the financing of a portfolio of UK rooftop and ground-mounted solar PV projects, where one of the projects was located on a former refinery site, including extensive environmental due diligence and provisions.
