Charles Russell Speechlys sponsor the BVCA High Growth Conference for entrepreneurs, business owners and investors
13 June 2016
Once again Charles Russell Speechlys have sponsored the BVCA High Growth Conference which took place on 1 June 2016 at the Hilton, Park Lane. The High Growth Conference is an event organised by the BVCA for entrepreneurs, business owners and investors. The conference was attended by more than 300 entrepreneurs and professionals from the private equity and venture capital community.
Malcolm MacDougall, head of Private Equity at Charles Russell Speechlys, moderated an interactive session on choosing different investors for different stages of a company's growth cycle. In particular the panel and the audience discussed:
The extra benefits that investors bring to the table in addition to purely the provision of finance, be it network, sector experience, contacts and support
Angel investors and the benefits that they can bring
Whether there is still a funding gap for early stage companies
The panel and audience were of the view that the funding gap had diminished due to alternative funding providers joining the market, for example crowd funding and growth in EIS and SEIS funding but that it could still be difficult to raise money for first time entrepreneurs and that it was easier to raise money for businesses in or around London than in other areas of the country.
The Charles Russell Speechlys panel was made up of Henry Sallitt, co-head of FPE Capital, Rory Stirling of BGF Ventures and Ken Cooper of the British Business Bank.
Tim Hames, Director of the BVCA said of the event: "We felt the event was a tremendous success this year, with over 300 delegates through the doors on the day. The Charles Russell Speechlys panel session added a great dimension to allow companies to understand the range of different investor options, including HNWs".
The keynote speaker at the High Growth Conference was Jose Neves, CEO of Farfetch, the online luxury fashion platform. The Charles Russell Speechlys private equity team recently acted for IDG Capital Partners on their investment in Farfetch as a lead investor in the recent $110 million Series F funding round.
