New marketing guidance published by the Information Commissioner

30 March 2016

On the 24th March last the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) published an updated version of their Direct Marketing Guidance.

The guidance addresses the ICO’s approach to enforcement, compliance in respect of solicited and un-solicited marketing, methods of obtaining consent and also guidance relating to marketing calls, text and emails.

There is a specific focus on lead generation and marketing lists and the best methods of buying and selling marketing lists.

In light of the ICO’s attention on the voluntary sector there is specific advice relating to direct marketing by charities, political parties and other not for profit organisations.
