European commission to adopt recommendation on online gambling

On Wednesday 9 July 2014 the European Commission adopts a recommendation to help Member States deliver a high level of protection to their citizens in the area of online gambling services.
The main features of the recommendation are:
to ensure that citizens in the EU, especially minors, are aware of the inherent risks associated with gambling
that operators are given a set of common principles to abide by in respect of responsible commercial communications of their services
to provide greater clarity and assurance for consumers that gambling sites are authorised and have adequate safeguard measures in place to cover issues such as age verification and identification controls
to provide appropriate measures to prevent the risks associated with gambling, such as addiction.
