We have a highly rated and substantial team of intellectual property (IP) lawyers, which forms one of the largest IP practices in the UK.
It deals with all IP rights, including patents, trade marks, designs, copyright, confidential information and data protection.
All 12 of its partners and partner-equivalents are ranked as leading individuals by the independent legal directories, and whilst not yet ranked as leading individuals, several of the more junior members of the team have distinguished themselves, for example by gaining the highly regard Postgraduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Law and Practice awarded by Oxford University Faculty and the Intellectual Property Lawyers Association.
The IP team has a wealth of experience in dealing with IP disputes in many sectors (including its recognised specialisms in life sciences/medical devices, chemicals, high-tech, engineering, manufacturing, electronics, luxury goods, retail, leisure, art, sports, publishing and broadcast media).
This extends from dealing with the largest and most complex multi-jurisdictional patent disputes involving leading edge technology, to highly sophisticated trade mark disputes involving world famous brands through to problems faced by smaller, more local businesses.
Whatever the nature of the dispute (many of which involve issues critical to our clients’ business), we provide clear and commercially focused advice based on a combination of local knowledge and a global outlook.
Whilst the team is well able to deal robustly with IP disputes where appropriate, litigation through the courts is not always the best option. The team is recognised as having a flexible approach (including alternative dispute resolution and arbitration) to resolving contentious matters, whilst remaining alert to clients’ commercial considerations and the complexities that arise, especially when the dispute has a multi-jurisdictional dimension.
