Bearing in mind the very wide discretion and broad powers of the English courts to deal with assets upon divorce, there are a number of areas where cohabitants, spouses, spouses to be and other family members may wish to take steps to protect and manage wealth.
One of the most obvious ways of doing this is by entering into either a cohabitation agreement or a pre or post marital agreement and we can advise you on these. There are, however, often other less obvious ways in which you can seek to protect pre-acquired or inherited wealth and you may, for example, wish to consider the wording very carefully when setting up a trust or dealing generally with your assets.
We are a 'full service firm' with international offices and close links between departments and we are therefore able to offer detailed advice to meet all your private client (and even commercial) needs, be it tax advice, the preparation of Wills or establishment of trusts with our private client department or the purchase or transfer of property with our property department, to name just a few. Our international family solutions group can also assist.
We also have strong links with third parties who can assist in all areas of financial or emotional support where Charles Russell Speechlys is unable to do so directly. For example, we can put you in touch with foreign lawyers, IFAs, banks, wealth managers, pension experts, psychologists, counsellors and even private tutors for you or your children. In this way we hope to offer a complete advisory and support service to assist you from the beginning to the end of your case and to help with anything in between.
